The researcher responses to this bug bounty are awful. They're not there to pay your salary, it's a thank you.http://www.forbes.com/sites/thomasbrewster/2016/07/13/fiat-chrysler-small-bug-bounty-for-hackers/#58cc01f4606f …

@iblametom but that is just what bug bounties are in your opinion. People who actually do bug bounties do it to make a living.

actually, no, I don't. But have we seen a killer car hack yet that impacts the business negatively? That's the biz economy.

Personally, I think specifying a maximum is the problem. It should be minimums per criticality/impact, and payout proportional.

If you find a bug that could cause a 7 digit + recall, is $1500 appropriate? Mins and typical/avg payouts make more sense.

Agreed, 1500 isn't of equivalent proportional value. Max can't be open ended but should be properly planned by value.

. @dguido @Forbes bounty research is like washing car windows in traffic. Helpful, but not asked for. Pay is a nice gesture, not a right.

Could be a way to make exposing their flaws not worth pursuing. And still $1500 more then Apple.
