It's irresponsible for Twitter to notify people they're being targeted then recommend the EFF and Tor as remedies.pic.twitter.com/sDwdd9YDVX

@dguido the latter, yeah, that was serious, but the tor project addressed it quickly and efficiently
@_ta0 Tor has a history of practical anonymity failures, from malicious exit nodes to architectural vulns and more http://www.ieee-security.org/TC/SP2013/papers/4977a080.pdf …
@_ta0 Tor has uses but it is over-prescribed as a solution and carry unknown risk for users not intimately familiar with it.
@dguido VPNs aren't reliable because, well, they're generally companies
@_ta0 I would really like Streisand if they cut Tor out of it (you're probably seeing a trend here haha)https://github.com/jlund/streisand
@dguido adding more layers does not make for better crypto
@_ta0 Oh I know, but as a concept I like it. I would just use L2TP if it were me.
@dguido i personally am a big fan of i2p; i think it really addresses a lot of tor's problems, albeit there are a few new ones...
@dguido the latter i've seen for a while; there are multiple relays that attempt to compromize your SSH. HSTS should stop that
@_ta0 Using Tor opens you to a massive quantity of risk that normal users have little understanding of + does not address the original alert
@dguido but it addresses at least one symptom
@dguido ideally we'd recommend hardened gentoo + tor but it's not an ideal world and a lot of these people are non-technical non-profits
@dguido assuming we're talking HTTPS and assuming there aren't huge flaws in the implementation (i know lol)
