It's already *kind of* public, in that you shed it everywhere you go and leave it behind you in public places. We've got some laws, too -- the Genetic Information Non-discrimination Act was passed in 2008 and makes it illegal for health insurers and employers to act on it.

Heck, even if your specific DNA isn't online, those of your close relatives might be. As technology develops, I think it will become easier for LE to narrow things down based on close familial similarities.

I mean, couldn’t you say the same of SSNs / other PII? I think it’s reasonable to want both abuse of data laws AND try to maintain the semblance of privacy (even though their are plenty of SSN hacks)

I just wonder how these companies with super sensitive data should protect it better. To invest more money in security etc. somehow it feels like it just doesn’t happen.
