Truly Crown Sterling is the infosec drama gift that keeps on giving. 🤣 https://cdn.arstechnica.net/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/1.pdf … They're now suing Blackhat because them being a sponsor didn't stop people from calling them out on sucking? 💯

I read this a little differently? Crown Sterling was denied some of the benefits of its sponsorship (such as having materials posted on the BH site) and BH did not apply its own code of conduct to itself. Therefore, they want their sponsorship money back.

Not trying to defend Crown Sterling here, just saying this actually seemed coherent. I’m not a lawyer, and I don’t know what the BH sponsorship agreement looks like, but I still kinda doubt this works as a legal argument. They still got to speak and have a booth, after all.

I'm not on the side of Crown Sterling or Black Hat. I'm solely on the side of infosec drama (and @veorq + @dguido). IANAL, but I agree BH doesn't come out looking great in this. They took money, then retracted sponsorship benefits. Wasn't clear from filing if they refunded any

The CoC argument seems a bit weak. I wasn't there, but I think they had security remove the offending party when they were being a bit unruly during the Q&A session. Not sure what else BH could be expected to do

I mean, they got what they paid for. They had a booth for the duration of the conference and gave their talk. The only legit complaints are: 1) They’re not on the Blackhat website 2) Blackhat didn’t defend them in the press They even said they got 477 leads from scanning badges

Ah thanks, I missed that <3 I think I agree that the payment is to have a booth at Black Hat, and after that they're on their own. I think (2) is dumb, but also what many predicted: they'd try to use Black Hat as a shield against their BS. Crazy how far they're going with it...

Yeah, hadn’t seen your tweet, but that’s basically my point as well. I don’t think it makes a good court case, but they’re certainly within their rights to try I guess?
