Trail of Bits is doing some of the most pragmatic, genuinely futuristic work in security of any organization I'm aware of. You're certainly the smallest at your level. Conferences are really hard to maintain.
The conference died because NYU killed it. I would have kept running it. One member of CSAW led a scorched earth campaign to kick me and Trail of Bits out of the event, and it created a toxic environment where no further work could get done.
Somehow, this is how a lot of wonderful things end. "They'd never shoot the puppy! Therefore I win!" That being said, I had *no* idea and that sucks :(
Yeah, it sucks. But that’s how @EmpireHacking was born! I’m just as pleased with the results there too. It taught me that I should avoid third-party dependencies if I’m going to throw myself into a new project.
