A few highlights: Threads 2013 was the first public announcement of the DARPA Cyber Grand Challenge, and the only non-government venue that discussed results from Cyber Fast Track. Threads 2014 was the first public talk by NSA’s Rob Joyce.

Trail of Bits is doing some of the most pragmatic, genuinely futuristic work in security of any organization I'm aware of. You're certainly the smallest at your level. Conferences are really hard to maintain.

The conference died because NYU killed it. I would have kept running it. One member of CSAW led a scorched earth campaign to kick me and Trail of Bits out of the event, and it created a toxic environment where no further work could get done.

Why did it die? Resources?

Wasn't aware of the history, since no one seemed to want to talk about it... But CSAW19 will be hosting a conference portion! I think The Lab should be a friendly place open to all the curious who desire to participate, and I've been hoping to see ToB be a part of that this fall!

Since it's an all undergradute lab, the student leadership is constantly changing, with that comes shifting of goals, ideals, etc. The Lab used to be a place of solemn work and study, but now you can find it bustling with enthusiasm; collab on chals, trading highfives for shells
