Good piece about known risks with RSA, but "flat out unacceptable to use RSA in 2019" is too radical IMHO. Someone could probably list ECC failures and write a "Fuck ECC" post. The article for example omits to mention that PSS and FDH are more "misuse-resistant" than ECDSA.https://twitter.com/trailofbits/status/1148182640723410945 …

We're obviously steering the conversation aggressively, but with regard to PSS... To use that you need to know it's an option, pick an MGF (only one actually available, but confusing!), a hash for the MGF (same as digest?), a salt length, & a hash to sign. Too many forced choices

I agree with most of the post's content, don't get me wrong, and happy to see Manger's attack mentioned. But such alarmist statements, especially if taken out of context, could do more harm than good. ("ToB said RSA is unacceptable and we're still using it?? You're fired!")

Can we agree that using RSA for a greenfield implementation in 2019 is making a huge mistake? E.g., "No more _new_ RSA"

Yup, although I may be more nuanced :) There can be exceptions where OAEP is a better than ECIES/ElGamal, but these are (rare) exceptions. So yes, don't use RSA—but post-quantum RSA instead https://cr.yp.to/papers/pqrsa-20170419.pdf …

The only exceptions I can think of: - CA root certs (i.e. being certified by a CA with an RSA root, not running your own root CA) - RPKI - RSA accumulators
