Just now, I transferred the entire domain from Cloudflare to DNSimple DNS servers, changed it so the apex is configured via ALIAS instead of A records, and enabled the Enforce HTTPS option on Github Pages. Let's wait a few minutes to see what happens...

I don't follow either. Why would changing your A record for http://trailofbits.com affect your MX record when your MX is http://x.googlemail.com ? The domain doesn't specify DKIM, and SPF is rather straightforward.

A records still get referenced, even in the presence of MX records. DKIM, SPF, and DMARC are all turned on outside the screenshot.

“Breaking mail delivery” makes me jump to wonder of you are trying to CNAME the apex domain or not. I’m not an expert, but my understanding is that using a CNAME on an apec domain can result in funkiness.
