I am not sure what are the functions that don't satisfy that? Some macros? Your app also calls them. Can you give an example of a function that doesn't have a known purpose at compile time? How would my app figure out how to use it?

The cases I've seen are with folks using `apply` to call functions, or if they're passing MFA tuples to things like `http://Ecto.Multi.run/5 `. Also, there are some behaviours that aren't yet defined, like `start_link/1` which we need to start children of supervisors.

Warnings about “dead” code would be nice, but it certainly shouldn’t be a blocker for compilation (unless ‘warnings-as-errors’ is enabled).

With the shell, applications, and upgrades it becomes an impossible problem. I'm very interested in seeing what Lumen can bring here as it does static full program compilation
