Happy Sunday!☀️The lockdown is absolutely necessary now, but it is unrealistic to expect people to continue to distance & avoid mixing for the next year. Intimacy & close contact is what makes us human. We need a plan to stop lockdown/release cycles & learn from other countries.

We are missing three components: long-term strategy, functional test/trace/isolate, and real & enforceable border restrictions. Vaccines will help but risky to rely completely on them & not going to help with the lockdown/release cycles in short-term.

Compliance is hard because there's no incentive or pay-off with current system. There needs to be a plan where people's sacrifices result in an outcome -> schools back, live music, sports matches, bars/clubs & all the aspects that make life enjoyable. Arts & humanities are vital.

Vaccines should do more than just "help". I think we also have to accept that adherence to the rules isn't very high in the UK so comparing to other countries doesn't work.

Is worth noting many under 50s will be vaccinated due to existing health conditions.

Happy Sunday. If we are to stop the lockdown/release cycles, do we not first actually need a proper lockdown? Far to many non-essential services still in operation. Factory's, manufacturing, construction, some retail.

Let's be honest, it's nothing like a lockdown. Most businesses have declared themselves "essential" and stayed open this time, and with construction & manufacturing still going (most just returning after 2 week break), I suspect the numbers will only get worse.

I’m afraid you’re correct. ‘Everyone stay at home’ was a clear message in the first one. This time it’s ‘stay at home’ unless you want to go out to work. The messaging is terrible. So many loopholes. Schools are not closed. They have increasing numbers of students returning.
