There is a better way. If only leaders in England would see it’s the virus hurting the economy.https://www.theguardian.com/world/commentisfree/2020/jul/31/the-northern-lockdown-represents-government-failure-on-a-massive-scale-covid-19 …

Been saying that all along, its a Public Health crisis, treat it like that and the economic crisis can be addressed

I think they do see that the root cause is the virus. The trouble is, #ZeroCOVID strategy would require the govt to acknowledge that it has been spectacularly wrong so far, late to lockdown, early to reopen, u-turns and mixed messages. This govt just won't own their mistakes.

Too much ego, too little common sense and humility... I've not yet heard one apology or acknowledgement of mistakes made.

There might be, but it's not a zero covid strategy. It's a stupid strategy that does nothing but delay the inevitable.

England has one of highest population densities in world. 6 times greater than Scotland - More avenues for transmission Strong suppression is the viable strategy. Lockdown eliminatiion will cause poverty related/closed NHS excess deaths Have to factor in more than just Covid

Prof Linda Bauld identifies three main differences to factor in when comparing England And Scotland 1) population density six times greater in England 2) BAME populations much larger in England 3) Scotland locked down earlier in the curve although lockdown dates were the same

Your third point just proves the inadequacies of U.K. government, should have stayed another two weeks in lockdown to suppress the virus

See? They can't even call it England, and use 'the nation' to blur reality. Media follows. Won't acknowledge difference of 'elimination strategy' from 'holding pattern'. 'Nation', 'National' and'Country' all meaningless. Stats not given for 4 nations anymore, just the fog of 'UK'
