Keep being asked when this will be over. Here's my stark view: daily records still being set for # of cases. Global pandemic is in early to middle phase now. Taking off in several countries. It's like a storm raging. Countries need to protect their residents... (1/2)

Best way is clear virus so that normality can resume (COVID-free Britain), get domestic economy going & then start to re-engage globally using innovative international aviation agreements. Lockdown/release cycles are the worst possible route esp with no certainty over immunity.

Full lockdown/release cycles will further devastate the economy they are trying to kick start prematurely. Why do they keep making the same mistake? Economy first is the worst solution for the economy right now.

The mistake we make is assuming that this Gov't is TRYING to act in the interests of the country or its people That includes economic health They are a cabal of self-interested crooks, happily lining their own pockets whilst they burn the country down

Restrictions have been eased before test, track and trace in place. If we're not back in lockdown during August, it will be a big surprise.

There will be regional lockdowns all over England. Scotland does need to implement essential travel only to/from until Bojo and co get their shy together.

Agreed, and for those of us shielding, reopening travel makes the idea of freedom seem impossible. The island I live on was saved from any cases by the travel ban, but with no testing, checks or quarantine period for visitors, it’s just not going to be safe to see folk.

Professor Sridhar, do you think we would be in a better position had the UK implemented lockdown sooner? Had the government taken this virus seriously?

I think anyone repeating this assumption ( lockdown should have been .....) should look at the minutes of Sage meetings. They show that as soon as the scientific advice changed to lockdown the U.K. government did exactly that. It’s a fiction that they didn’t

Where are politicians getting idea they can "manage" pandemic by letting it run, shall we say, "lukewarm" -- they must know they don't have that span of control (e.g. even liberal Calif) and outbreaks can't be isolated if we let it run w/ testing still rationed for scarcity.
