Reality check: Germany (pop 83million) running 200-300 cases per day and sudden outbreak is 1000 cases from a factory. UK (pop 66million) running 1200-1500 cases per day. Like an equivalent big outbreak everyday in the UK.

And there is suitable worry from Germany about the size of this outbreak, yet this is a typical day in the UK ?

Is it possible that Germany can get the R number down swiftly due to good trace and protect system?

That's heavily dependent on how the reaction in local government and population is. For now it's just an outbreak in a big factory. But the workers have family, did shopping, went to hair salons, doctors, etc etc. With careful quarantine and tracing, it will be contained fast.

Arizona (7M population) is running 2,500 cases per day with a 17% positive rate.

17% positive rate indicates they are missing a huge number of untested cases.

I don’t understand how the R in Germany can be higher than the UK? Can anyone explain?

R becomes less meaningful the fewer people who have it. If 1 person has it and R is 1 then they are likely to pass it on to 1 person. If R in Germany is 1 and 200 get it each day they may pass it to 200 more ... U.K. if 1500 get it each day they pass it to 1500.... and...
