👇New Zealand was told it was impossible. But they've done it & can have mass gatherings/sports/festivals resume. Now other countries might start looking at elimination again within their borders. People will start asking their governments- why not?https://twitter.com/gavreilly/status/1269967137415757825 …

ℹ️😷 Over 1,000 academics and scientists have signed an open letter calling on the Government to revisit its stance on lockdown - restrictions should continue until the virus has been eliminated entirely, they say, as living alongside it means constraining the economy for longer pic.twitter.com/mrIOAm4dQs

Would this even be possible in the UK now? If so, at what cost?

And UK is willing to have air bridges with countries?! That is not going to hapoen with New Zeeland but might be with Brazil.

The earlier you put out the fire, the sooner you can rebuild the house. Congratulations NZ.

agree, if you spot the fire earlier, tackle it while it is small, prevent more combustible material coming into contact with any flame the easier putting out the fire will be. Now just need to keep new flames away!

This is absolutely what we should be doing. Crush the curve. Because “people will die” is just not an appropriate response from any government.

I don't think a comparison that doesn't recognise New Zealand's unique geographical advantage - quite rich yet physically remote - is entirely reasonable.

We need a targeted lock down with testing and a functioning tracking app. These are all within our power and will enable us to get back to normal sooner rather than later.
