4k hours of views in a 12 mth period seems very unrealistic for starting out and fighting your way up the ladder. It takes longer than 12 mths for some channels to get 1k subs, let alone 4K HRS of view time. (I understand a creator with those number isn't making much money)....

...That is not the problem though. The problem is that while it's taking years to even get 1k subs, it's taking much longer to get 4k hrs of views when you're limited to a 12 mth span. After you hit that window, the time you've allotted will drop and drop....

...and you'll be having to fight your way back up again. Unless someone has a breakout video staying consistent and uploading often won't be enough. ESPECIALLY if you upload shorter content. New creators most of the time can't start out uploading 30min videos. Audience...

...retention will be minimal at that point. There's also no guarantee anyone will watch everything you put out, or watch the whole video. Once again stacking the odds against you. I'm not really hung up on the subs, it's 4k hours in a 12 month window that bothers me. /rant

I should clarify I think the 4k thing is an issue early on isn't necessarily about making a paycheck to live off of. Once you start to gain a following it's good to be able to invest into your channel and steadily bump up the quality. Starting out you should not empty....

...your pockets and buy all kinds of stuff for your channel. Use what you have and start from there. You have another job that pays the bills and works. The small amount of money you could get could be invested back into the channel. At that point you're not taking...

...a loss if things go south and don't pan out. It's not like it used to be. You don't become famous and monetarily stable from YouTube as quick as you used to. It takes time. Making comparisons to the way it used to be isn't viable anymore. It's a different world...

...With that being said. I think these new rules are going to elongate the creative process and stifle creator and channel growth. Not for the better. But hey, someone out there should prove me wrong and beat the system. Lord knows I'll try. /rant...again
