    Annual mini retrospective of my little projects: fewer game jams to show from 2019, but one fully released game makes it feel like a reasonably productive year on this front 😆Here's to a great 2020 & good luck to everyone on their projects!!

    Still slowly planning out my next game -- I mentioned wanting to explore the monster catching / virtual pet genre, and sketched out this concept where you can evolve a critter into many different forms via a branching evolution tree. What do you think?

    So I've been using a MacBook w/ the at work for almost a year now, and just can't get over my dislike for it... To the point where I'm dreading having to replace my 2012 MacBook if it's not possible to buy a new MacBook without it. Am I the only one?

    Admittedly, the time/effort of adding new features to my already-released game might be better spent working full speed ahead on stuff for my next game... But for some reason I find myself struggling to get past the planning phases for it 🤔

    For this week's , I've been slowly plugging away at making this inventory menu system in - Featuring "artifacts" where you can collect a number of fragments in order to reveal the completed item along with a bit of in-game lore 😁

    Figuring out the basics of using to build for both and ! So far it's been surprisingly straightforward to handle not just multiple platforms, but multiple screen resolutions (including respecting those pesky safe areas on the iPhone X)

    In other news, my little game got an update adding some more levels and stuff! Planning to continue these kinds of small incremental updates on it, since it'll probably be a while before I have anything substantive to show for game number two 😆

    So I did a kinda crazy / impulsive thing and bought a cheap phone with no intention of actually using it as a phone, just for doing stuff and testing things and whatnot. Slowly working toward my whole scheme of making something cross-platform for my next game 😆

    Yesterday evening I attended my first playtest event as a game developer (the annual Playtest Party at Logan Theater in Chicago) and got tons of excellent feedback on my silly little iPhone game 😆 Bonus: My setup was conveniently located right in front of the bar 🍺

    App Store submission update: Got approved on the 2nd attempt, and is now live and available to download!! Link: - It's been a long road, but I'm ridiculously happy to see this little game finally make it to release 😁🎉

    App Store submission update: 1st attempt has now been kicked back with "Metadata Rejected" - I failed to include instructions, and the reviewers could not locate the in-app purchase within the app. My plan to make it low key and unobtrusive may have backfired horribly here 😆

    Latest progress: Having now gone through 13 TestFlight builds with tons of improvements and bugfixes, I think this little game might finally be ready to make its way to the App Store!! It's officially been submitted for review & I'm now awaiting the result 😬

    For this week's , here's a look at the new background texture for Area 2 (levels 10 through 18), which is intended to have a different feel and slightly darker atmosphere than the "sunny meadow" vibe of the first 9 levels.

    Update: A few fixes later and memory is no longer infinitely increasing, though now I'm wondering if the average amount it's using (500 MB ish) might still be unnecessarily on the high side... Anyone know what a good range is for a typical game?

    Latest progress: At one point I was hoping build 11 of my little game might be "the one" to finally submit to the App Store, but I seem to have introduced a pretty spectacular memory leak in one of the recent updates 🙈 Onward to build 12!
