I will be voting NO on the Rules package with #PayGo. It is terrible economics. The austerians were wrong about the Great Recession and Great Depression. At some point, politicians need to learn from mistakes and read economic history. @paulkrugman @StephanieKelton @RBReichhttps://twitter.com/GunnelsWarren/status/1080318713331617792 …

Our currency is fiat, we can no more run out of money than a bowling alley can run out of points. The operating constraint is inflation, not debt, and inflation isn't a factor at the moment.
-
The Federal Reserve controls the money supply; the Federal Treasury does not print revenue. The US raises money for deficit financing by floating bonds and we must pay interest on those bonds. Again, it wiser and easier to use progressive taxation.

I don't see how compounding one form of fiscal inanity with another achieves anything. I'm all for revoking the tax cut. I'm all for raising rates on higher earner and raising the threshold on income that can be taxed for social security.

Tax and spend liberalism is much more preferable than the borrow and spend conservatism of the last 40 years.....
-
What tax and spend liberalism? Carter was one of the most tight-fisted Presidents (just like Jerry Brown in California). Clinton had a budget surplus. Obama was constraint by the Bush's economic crash. This 'tax and spend liberalism' is a republican myth.

The dude just said that its better to pay for what you want then to just borrow money for what you want. In plain English, this means that it's better to raise taxes to support everyday Americans than cut taxes for corporate welfare. I feel like progressives need a translator.

Have you actually read the tax code? Cause if you did you wouldn’t be spewing lies like this.
-
Most members of Congress have not read the tax code. PayGo is a provision related to government budgeting, not tax law. I believe DevG is contending that you cannot put restrictions on social justice legislation when tax cuts largely benefiting corporations had been passed.

Generally, the House can vote to suspend to rule on any major piece of legislation it so desires. The GOP cannot do anything to override a majority on this count. However, if you have a non-emergency piece of legislation, it requires that you think bout funding it.

The tax cut was for all, including the corporate tax cut because all costs to corporations are passed thru ri the consumer.

We have what is known as a progressive tax system. The tax cut for the "rich" is proportional to the overall percentage of taxes that they pay. Middle class recipients also got a cut that is also proportionate to their percentage of taxes paid; which is lower.
