Wales has lowest % of people feeling welsh out of any country in the uk (English people feel more English than the welsh feel welsh etc); we have huge political illiteracy, no one knows what devolution does; many people are hostile to devolution; we don’t have a national media

Most people consume far right news & media; we know the far right are on the march in wales & many in welsh nationalist movement are right wing, or at the least hostile to socialism. Much of that hostility is down to the Labour Party, and that’s understandable

But welsh people face huge challenges in their daily lives. Poverty, no jobs or crap jobs, poor transport, isolation, overstretched public services. The situation can’t go on, it’s untenable, this isn’t an acceptable standard of living: a better society is possible & must happen

We believe independence could provide a better life for people, change the economy to improve everyone’s life. We aren’t saying force Marx down people’s throat, just that if independence is going to succeed you need to show people *how* it can help improve their lives

And that means talking about how independence can help the poorest in society, engaging with them. It needs to be a social movement that not only makes that argument, but allies itself with progressive causes- lgbt rights, anti austerity, anti fascism. That’s how u attract people

An independence movement which doesn’t talk about those things or get involved with those other progressive causes simply won’t succeed. It will just be seen as a nationalist project, people won’t see how it can improve their lives. That’s all we are saying!

This isn’t a kneejerk criticism. It’s advice! Constructive criticism. We are all from non welsh identifying & non welsh speaking parts of wales, we have insights into what people think about wales & welshness. An Indy movement based on nationalism or language just won’t work

It’s also not going to happen overnight and there will be disagreements (as there have been today!) we are sorry if we offended people or disrespected people doing hard political work- never our intention. We have learned a lot from discussions. Keep fighting

Very much agree as well - lack of Welsh media and education on Assembly & Welsh government is pathetically low. It’s as if by design that Welsh people are actively discouraged from differentiating Welsh issues from UK/English issues. Inclusive & fair society only way forward.

Totally agree. I find it amazing after 20 years of devolution and NHS stories on the Welsh news almost every day, still half the population of Wales don’t realise that we run it ourselves in Wales. That does deflate me. Together with Brexit vote, I sometimes feel like giving up!
