Periodic Reminder: When debugging, you must first accept that something you believe is true is not true. If everything you believed about this system were true, it would work. It doesn't, so you're wrong about something. This is a surprisingly common stumbling block for devs.

100% of peer feedback I've read for mobile engineers at every company I've worked at: From other mobile engineers: They should continue to deepen their mastery of craft on mobile technologies From non-mobile engineers: They should branch out and learn non-mobile stacks already

You: I write all my constraints programmatically. It's SO much easier than using a storyboard. Ick! Your coworkers who have to understand and then modify your "genius" constraint code:

On the left, an armed man entering a government building to exercise his right to peaceful protest. On the right, an armed man entering a government building to murder people. In all sincerity, how is any ordinary person supposed to know the difference & respond appropriately?

It’s pretty hilarious to have gone from Laos, where locals were shivering in puffy jackets because it was 65ºF/18ºC, to Wisconsin, where locals are partying out in shorts and t-shirts because it’s 45ºF/7ºC.

Literal culture jamming. (Bonus delight: the building in that photo — on the street falsely marked as having a traffic jam — is Google’s Berlin office)

I've been investigating both Flutter and Jetpack Compose lately. Some things stood out so I wrote a blog about it:

Nigerian immigrants are by far the most educated immigrant group in the US. Over 20% have *graduate* degrees. But... They're also black. So due to the "travel ban" Nigerians will no longer be allowed to get green cards. The ban was never about security.

That $11 million Bloomberg just dropped on his Super Bowl ad? It's about the same as you spending $12 on a movie ticket. (And not even an IMAX one.) An extremely cool and depressing new wealth comparison tool from and :

Seeing some weird behavior in a SwiftUI example I’m working on where when I click into a TextField on the simulator, the app spikes usage for like 10 seconds (and also when I try to edit it). Most StackOverflow on this says upgrade to Catalina fixes it…but this is on Catalina.
