House Judiciary GOP aides say there’s a meeting between House Judiciary Dems and the Justice Department this afternoon to discuss the path forward. Should know more afterward. GOP side was not invited to the meeting, per Republican aides.

DOJ has issued a legal opinion (no surprise) that Barr can refuse this hearing because Dems want their counsel to ask some questions. This'll be the matrix for Trump admin's refusal to honor any subpoenas. Because Dems aren't using impeachment powers, it'll drag out in court.
If the #TrumpAdmin keeps refusing to cooperate with any form of #congressionaloversight, the #Dems will hopefully hit some threshold that finally motivates them to draw up articles of #impeachment. But what is that magic threshold?

The "power of the House" is to investigate. They have that power with or without starting impeachment proceedings. Impeachment has 0% chance of removal. Its political effect is debatable within Dem party. I see more downside than opportunity. Repub pols/media get voice too.
Having people in front of a microphone having to answer questions is a powerful persuader, whether or not people are impeached, removed or convicted. See Watergate 1973-74.

I think Trump will encourage him to stay away, and challenge the power of Congress. I’m sure Trump would get rid of Article 1 of our Constitution, if he could.
