asked me for a photocopy of my social. When my contract is up in a year I'll find a new provider for this reason.

Verizon sucks. They profiled me because I have a guys name and I'm a girl. I'm 100% done with your shit company.
-
I was trying to separate my account from my parents and pay MORE for my own line and got denied unless I provided my SS card
-
I've never been asked by a phone company to provide such an important document.
-
2/2 If anyone could open an account using your name without verification. Your credit could be damaged. ^JV
-
not one person I know who has veriozon has been asked for their physical SS card. So I don't agree with your statement.

It's unfortunately trivial to get this kind of information, which is why companies like
@Verizon need to stop relying on it -
it is very hard to securely authenticate the general public.
-
Unfortunately so. Customer service reps put up extremely low barriers to access though, just a shame :/

Operators being too kind are always the easiest hack, because people wanna please.
-
"My number? Oh shoot... does it end with a 4? I think that's the one, right?" Until these companies literally prohibit operators...
-
from giving out info without receiving it first, this soft hack vulnerability will exist (sadly, due to people trying to help others)

@deray@CHASE_LUCHIANO sadly that method of gaining access is pretty damn common. That's why banks have started doing auth via dial code -
.
@deray@CHASE_LUCHIANO for instance, the Barclays banking app in the UK has a button to press that calls support and authorizes too.
