Social insects biologist here. Honey bees that pollinate almond orchards are a non-native species that are managed, just like we manage livestock. There are here for pollination services and honey. So this is just them doing their job. 1/2

The problem involving honey bees is that they swarm away from the managed apiaries, and these feral honeybees outcompete native bees (which also pollinates crops too, often more effectively!), such as sweat bees, carpenter bees, mason bees, bumble bees, and more. 2/2
