Some would probably still hoard to the point of stores running out of stuff. I’d suggest taking a page from http://Itch.io ’s “community copies”: make each item twice the price (or more) but also set aside one of that item to be donated to someone vulnerable and/or poor.

The reason I’m saying all items (not just the first) is that I could see someone making multiple runs and just get one item of each. Unless the store keeps customer records (probs only stores with membership cards) they won’t be able to check for that. Gaming the system.

Only problem though, is those rich enough not to care, can still buy everything.... Though doing this and limiting everything to 2x only, would probably be good.

But the thing about applying an exponential price curve after the second purchase is that it’s impossible to be too rich to care. By the time you buy your 45th pack of loo roll it costs more than the annual GDP of the global economy.
