Simone Veil was a great lady and a fighter. Survived nazism and fought all her life for women. Proud she was French, she’s definitely an example to follow for me. Thanks for reminding me of her birthday.

Some Afrolatinxs are Afrolatinx because they have a non-Black latinx parent + a Black parent who is not latinx, but can y’all also make space for the majority of Afrolatinx folks who have two Black parents from Latin America + stop acting like Blackness doesn’t exist in Spanish?

It's amazing how seldom historians discuss the influence of Harry Byrd. Probably because George Wallace's bombast makes for an easier target. But Byrd was a proponent of a quiet businessman's racism ("James Crow") that's far more pervasive than Wallace's shouty demagoguery.

OTD 1870, the 15th Amend was ratified. After its passage, thousands of African Americans were elected to political office. This brief period of success was followed by racial violence, Jim Crow laws, KKK & disenfranchisement schemes. Our voting rights remain under attack today.

You thought Jay-Z partnering with the NFL was rooted in some quest to do good, raise awareness about police brutality, and champion Kaepernick’s mission from inside the organization that blackballed him?

Please stop listening to Jay-Z about social issues when capitalism has been and will always be his guiding moral principle, what he organizes around, and what he aims to protect. You’ll be a lot less disappointed.

Trump and his enablers are throwing a lavish Super Bowl party at Mar-a-Lago. The estimated cost to taxpayers: $3.4M Once again, they are using public funds to subsidize their own extravagances while cutting public funds for programs that aid the vulnerable. Shame on them.
