      @comex the common technical term for that is DASH - it also allows for dynamic quality adjustment, which is great on slower connections

      @delroth_ Does their MSE player work better than the usual Flash thing I get that can’t rewind without redownloading? :p

      @comex nah, performs the same for rewind, unfortunately. Cost efficient video streaming is hard :(

      @delroth_ I literally have no idea why keeping already-streamed data in memory on a system with gigs of RAM has a cost.

      @comex browsers don't really expose system memory pressure to tabs, and even then finding something that works well for everyone is Hard(TM)

      @delroth_ this would be nice to have, but even without, keeping 50-100mb and throwing away after sitting paused a long time sold be fine.

      @delroth_ Mm… aren’t 30+ minute videos like a gigabyte? Double at 60fps… still reasonable. Or am I misremembering?

      @comex if 30min is 1G, then 100M would be ~3min at 30FPS, 1:30 at 60FPS. Not that big of a rewind buffer.

      @delroth_ (also, I think I overestimated the size)

      @comex my 1080p anime is avg 750-800MB for ~25min, so estimate is not that bad. Youtube bitrate is probably worse than that though.
