Opcodes being shuffled on every FFXIV patch is so obnoxious. I don't understand these stupid half-measures they're doing that don't really stop ACT but just create annoying work for everyone on every patch.

Like did some dev think "Maybe if it's annoying enough, everyone will just give up?" Like, come on.

I've been doing that kind of stuff in the industry in the past. It's useful, in ways that aren't completely obvious. My take: it's not about ACT, it's about bots. This kind of opcode shuffling means that basically they need a reverse engineer on staff, not as a one off. Costly.

Anything that makes bots more costly means that 1. some actors drop off (better money to be made elsewhere); or 2. they have to be more aggressive to recoup the costs. And more aggressive == easier to catch, usually.

If SE actually thinks things like this will stop the community though, I'd like to have them meet Niantic and ask them how that went for them :-) But bots are mostly a competitive market, collaboration is not in your interest if you're the one paying for the R&D.

(This kind of all breaks down with the existence of projects like Sapphire unfortunately, since at some point bots can really just copy from there and stop caring. But I would imagine Sapphire doesn't prioritize the opcode RE in the same way bot devs would.)

All in all: not the first idea I would personally implement to try and solve the botting problem, but it's a super simple change to implement from their side, and anyone who has worked on anti-abuse professionally will likely attest to this kind of things being useful.
