Last time I did the maths, hosting Dolphin's CI/CD infra on GCP would cost us at the bare minimum around $10K/year. Our total bill instead is around $900/year and that's with nice things like redundant backups. And I think Hetzner has had fewer outages than us-east1.

There is also something really comforting about not being able to accidentally bankrupt your org with misconfigurations like Cloud providers will happily allow you to do.

Holy shit. That's 75k in _bandwidth_ (egress) costs! That's how clouds get you.

Have you seen their answer to that? "Oh well we need to move more of our cheap infra into the cloud to cut on bandwidth costs!" Cloud Stockholm syndrome.

Yeah, I don't really get it. Even for low tier servers azure/google cloud are really expensive. And when I was trying to see the price when scaling up resources it easily became several times as expensive as an equivalent dedicated server...

"I believe that in January, we had $2082 of network cost (almost entirely egress; ingress is basically free) and $1750 of cloud-storage cost (almost all of which was download)." wow
