The thing that rankles me the most about @chef's stance is that it further propagates the idea of tech nationalism, and that workers and companies have an unconditional requirement to sell to their "own government" regardless of how their technology will be used.
I fail to see how you can read this from the @chef blog post without an example of them refusing selling to another government. It's not nationalism if they would provide the same "use case neutrality" to other countries' agencies.

They specifically said that they felt it inappropriate to deny technology to any arm of the US government. I can assure you they can't sell to the Iranian government ;)

There is a pretty noticeable difference between "following the law in your main country of operation" and "having a stance to not sell to X". I find "they don't sell to Iran" to be a pretty poor argument.

It further propagates the idea. It doesn’t need to use those specific words to do so

Chef CEO literally said his goal was to sell to the US government, and he doesn’t care what they do: https://www.theverge.com/2019/9/20/20876495/github-seth-vargo-pulled-code-chef-ice-deportations-trump-administration …pic.twitter.com/TyLJmJ7Kph
