ranlib on MacOS tries to be fancy with ctime/mtime and accidentally truncates them to 1s precision, causing the output file to be older than its inputs. Leading to parallel builds sometimes failing. Hah, thanks for the link. I hadn’t seen that kind of self-inflicted mtime pain before. redo has multiple protections against this sort of problem, including better mtime handling, and locks that prevent the same target from being built more than once.
