Earlier this year, @harvardiop students and I traveled to South Carolina to host a town meeting w/ young voters. Our student moderator asked: What do you guys look for in a candidate?
Consistency.
Knowledge on the issues that they're speaking about.
Intersectionality.
Balls.
All good words that describe the same attribute; the power of qualitative research is in understanding the words and meanings behind the word choices voters use. Whether or not I, or anyone would use the same, not the main point of the exercise.

Fair point if that was the actual word used by many of the attendees. My read of your original post was that you had used that word to cover all synonymous responses. If ‘balls’ was really used by the students I wonder about the female representation at the town hall.

I questioned it, here's what followed. "Oh no, no, no, no, no. Just figuratively, I guess. Just the ability to make the gutty decisions. I don't care if it's a woman or a male, it doesn't matter. Just the person who's willing to make the really hard choice and can make it well."
