Further evidence that identity extends far beyond traditional race, gender, age. In SC & everywhere else we now know black voters don’t necessarily support black candidates, same for female and young voters. Values are an underestimated element of political identity today.

The only counter I have to this is Obama and Hillary in the 2008 primary. Although Obama emerged bigly and quickly became a known figure, you’d have to say Hillary was more well known before Obama won the nomination.
