It is legitimately harder being a young person today than it was for previous generations, particularly boomers. Politics has also taken a very ugly turn. We have turned our backs on looking towards the future.

That's a non sequitur. I think we should fight like hell for the USA we want and have been told for years that is real, land of the free, "give me your tired, your poor," &c &c, but it's a source of national shame that in 2018 such a country is more aspirational than actual.
