    1/A rare post that I disagree with. There are good reasons for the slowdown in physical ("atoms") innovation in recent decades, and zero of them have to do with the choices made by Silicon Valley businesses.

    One of the things I’m having to remember speaking to people outside of Stripe is how much context they’re missing on how ambitious we are. Stripe does a good job communicating externally, as far as these things go. But inside it’s so much (and realistically) bigger.

    1. The White House, the Senate and the House are not the three branches of government. 2. Obama wasn't president in 2008. 3. DACA didn't exist until 2012. 4. You broke it. 5. If you don't want people knowing you are a moron, you should STFU.

    Republicans want to fix DACA far more than the Democrats do. The Dems had all three branches of government back in 2008-2011, and they decided not to do anything about DACA. They only want to use it as a campaign issue. Vote Republican!

    So, hypothetically… if you control every branch of power, kill a couple popular programs for no reason, then try unsuccessfully to use them as leverage & end up shutting down your own government… maybe you are bad at governing & shouldn’t.

    I'd say ML is both overhyped and underrated. People overestimate the intelligence & generalization power of ML systems (ML as a magic wand), but underestimate how much can be achieved with relatively crude systems, when applied systematically (ML as the steam power of our era)
