The Combined Forces rugby team (DF & AGS) played their first game of 2023 on Friday against Wicklow RFC who are an AIL team. Wicklow finished strongly to run out winners but a good showing by the Combined Forces team who were without their interprovincial players

Attendees had a very constructive and informative discussion with the Director of Security Policy and Partnerships at NATO HQ, Mr James Mackey, who emphasised the importance of partnerships to broader peace and security in the Euro-Atlantic area.
The Belgian Vice CHOD, Lt Gen Marc Thys, attended as the Co-Chair of PIAG and NATO representative.
At the meeting, the CHODs reaffirmed their commitment to advocating for military interoperability, through partnership with NATO which enables Non-NATO forces to operate effectively
Today in Brussels Lt Gen Seán Clancy, Chief of Staff, chaired a meeting of the Partner Interoperability Advocacy Group (PIAG) Chiefs of Defence (CHODs). Senior representatives from five Non-NATO Nations attended: Australia, Austria, Ireland, New Zealand and Switzerland.
5th JCSC are continuing their European engagements in Brussels with the EU and the Irish Permanent Representative to Brussels. This session with Magnus Christiansson from the Swedish Defence University, examines security challenges faced by the Nordic/Baltic states.

The LMDS collaboration has been running with IT Carlow/SETU since 2012 and to date over 1800 of our personnel have been conferred with awards. An excellent programme that benefits our soldiers, sailors and aircrew greatly!
The awards conferred included 64 Higher Level Certificates in LMDS, 81 Minor Awards in LMDS and 58 BA LMDS (Logistics). In addition there were 5 Masters of Science in Communications Technology Management and 3 Masters of Engineering awarded.
Óglaigh na hÉireann can confirm that Trooper Shane Kearney is responding very well to treatment with his condition described as stable, and medical staff satisfied with his progress.

The funeral mass of Private Seán Rooney will take place today in the Holy Family Church, Dundalk. The service will begin at 0900 and will be broadcast on the RTE News channel.
Óglaigh na hÉireann can confirm that Trooper Shane Kearney will be medically evacuated from Beirut Airport to Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel today via a specially equipped medical aircraft.
He will then be taken by ambulance to Beaumont Hospital to continue receiving treatment.
Óglaigh na hÉireann has opened an online book of condolence for Private Seán Rooney, to allow those wishing to express their sympathies to his family to do so.

Óglaigh na hÉireann can also confirm that an Air Corps CASA aircraft has been pre-positioned in Malta as a contingency, and will provide support to the 121 Infantry Battalion as required.
Óglaigh na hÉireann can confirm that the two soldiers who were being treated for minor injuries following the convoy on Wednesday 14th December have been released from hospital and are safely back in UNP 2-45 (Irish Camp Shamrock).
Óglaigh na hÉireann will deploy a team to Lebanon this weekend to support the 121 Inf Bn and their personnel.
4 members of our Personnel Support Service will provide counselling services to the Bn while 3 MP investigators and a Legal Officer will assist with the investigation.
Óglaigh na hÉireann can confirm the name of the the soldier killed on active service whilst serving in UNIFIL this morning.
869674 Private Seán Rooney, a member of the 27 Infantry Battalion and a native of Newtwoncunningham, Co Donegal.

The remaining 4 personnel from the convoy were not injured and are safe & accounted for.
The names of personnel are not being released at this time, but the families of those involved have been informed.
A full investigation will commence into this incident.

4 personnel were taken to Raee Hospital, near Sidon as a result of the incident. One soldier was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital and another has undergone surgery and is in a serious condition. The other two soldiers are being treated for minor injuries.

On 14 December 2022 at approx 2115hrs (Irish time), a serious incident took place involving members of 121st Infantry Battalion, UNIFIL.
A convoy of two (2) Armoured Utility Vehicles (AUVs) carrying eight (8) personnel travelling to Beirut came under small arms fire.

Today Dr Siobhan Coakley was commissioned into the Defence Forces to take up her role as a Dental Officer in the Medical Corps. She was presented her commissioning scroll by D COS Sp in the DFTC, in the company of her family. Ádh mór le do phost nua!

The next generation of #leaders successfully passed out following the completion of 24 weeks intensive training on Thursday last in Cathal Brugha Barracks. These 45 students are now qualified for promotion to Corporal rank. Comhgairdeas libh!!
