On this day in 1635 Welsh buccaneer, Lieutenant Governor of Jamaica, plantation owner and inspiration for mediocre rum, Henry Morgan was born.

A LEGO Henry Morgan stands next to an open treasure chest on a beach. He and the treasure are in focus, everything else is blurred, including a seagull that sits slightly awkwardly in the foreground. This ranks as one of my favorite cruises ever- less than 24 hrs from leaving Samoa, we found the most amazing underwater firework display. This plume is incredibly acidic, yet we found active microbes thriving, with shrimp munching on microbial mats nearby. Our planet is amazing!
