In truth, I knew I'd do this before I even wrote my first tweet, but I sometimes need to make sure my natural inclination is the best one. I sometimes take these rigidly ethical stances and they're rarely "strategic."

The thing is, I've sometimes regretted when I've done something because it was strategic but contrary to my instincts, but I've never regretted doing something that aligned with my instincts even when it had professional consequences.

I do not think everyone should necessarily make this decision, nor that they should make it for the same reasons. I can see the argument for not withdrawing, I really can, I'm trying to provide an example, in case it's useful for others to have an additional perspective.
