Hey, Patrick (@patsweetpat), your tweet about the "public blasting" you're getting from Native people for the comic you created (She Kills) centers you (a white guy). Have you read White Fragility? If not, I recommend you do so, right away.

You screwed up, Patrick. That's it, in a nutshell. Yes, your messed up comic got covered by a major entertainment site. Most ppl, like you, are ignorant about misrepresentation.

Native people spoke up. So did others who study misrepresentations. Some took time to give examples. Some posed questions for you to reflect on. You're on the mascot defense path, trying to tell Native ppl that we're wrong, that we don't understand what you set out to do.

You are someone who can use your power and position to help Native people. I think you wanted to do that. But you goofed and are hurting the very ppl you wanted to help. Several years ago a game developer mis-used Native imagery. I called him on it.

He was upset and, he wrote later, he set out "to prove her wrong." He learned that he, indeed, was wrong. He wrote about it, and told other gamers about it, too. Be like Ben (@torahhorse), Patrick. Details: …https://americanindiansinchildrensliterature.blogspot.com/2015/03/game-developer-i-decided-to-prove-her.html …

You can also read Philip Deloria's PLAYING INDIAN, and Robert Berkhofer's WHITE MAN'S INDIAN. Many sources are available! You and your friends/colleagues should look to them rather than expecting or asking anybody to tell you what is wrong with your comic.
