    Raytheon's "Explainable Question Answering System" helps -powered military machines explain to humans why they made the decisions they did. I wonder if it already knows the answer to the question it's going to hear screamed from the rubble: "Why did you decide to destroy us?"

    Advances in machine learning and speedy processors have resulted in better AI systems than ever before. Now the only issue is: can we trust them?

    I get genuinely embarrassed by the moral & political tunnel vision of people cheering & chuckling over Alex Jones / Infowars getting kicked off Twitter. Like they’re somehow on board with cleaning up the world, making it all nice & sane again. No more nastiness please, !

    walking along a path just now, minding my own business, looked down, saw this twig, just lying there, like... like it was challenging me at some deep level, a sort of "twig" level, if you know what I mean. It was more than I could take, I backed off, better safe than sorry.

    the idea of making zoos "more ethical" completely misses the entire point of zoos, which is to give visiting humans a concrete taste of their own bleak, trapped & unsuitable lives. They're existential theme parks, and if you can't come out weeping then what's the point?

    what irks me most about this daft piece by Matt Rivitz re. is the infantile idea that there’s a pristine / truthful / safe / un-influenced / un-inflammatory / un-caustic “discourse” that needs protecting & can exist, protected, on Twitter.

    a cartoonishly bad argument: kick Alex Jones etc off Twitter (“bad people” who "do bad things”) making way for “people who use Twitter for good”. People like ? ? ? ? ? where’s your bad/good line?
