    1) There's a persistent belief that test coverage refers to code; the lines of code or functions or branches or branches and conditions touched during testing. Consider this instead: coverage is *how thoroughly we have examined the product with respect to some model*.

Shall we start calling POODLE-like vulnerabilities "disgraceful degradation"?

Heuristic: instead of counting things, describe things. (Do feel free to include counts in your description, if they really help, can be trusted, and don’t mislead.) Emphasize significant elements in a credible story. Show and tell how *what* affects *whom*, and how they feel.

Fact we’re in the ‘Twenties’ sounds so weird. It’s so synonymous with the 1920s. Sounds like a bygone era when women were still fighting for their rights, the upper classes were living a life of hedonism whilst people starved & the world was on the verge of financial ruin and war

it's not a japanese document unless the original PDF (generated by excel) has jpg artifacts around it from being faxed too many times each time it was signed/stamped.

I like to have my code peer-reviewed. It has proven, over many years, to improve my code quality, and to improve me. It requires a well-functioning, constructive team that is focused on improving both people and product; don’t use code reviews in a dysfunctional environment.

As a side effect, we are increasingly more comfortable with egregious waste of resources, using more and more cloud compute, fragmented into tiny VMs to solve simple problems, many of which inconsequential.

We seem to be forgetting the value of experience, and collectively heading in a world where every problem is solved by an army of monkeys with Jupiter workbooks (or the problem is declared "not interesting" which is an anathema)

What's bothering me with the current emphasis on teamwork is that we are forgetting the value of "deep work" - individual focusing on the subject matter, occupying their whole conscience with the problem and achieving a qualitative better outcome through reframing it.

Learning Go - this time for real. I find myself not really *enjoying* the language, despite finding it very pragmatic, regular and intuitive. It feels like an instrument designed to do work.

For those who are interested in research-based solutions to stop police violence, here’s what you need to know - based on the facts and data. A thread. (1/x)

Everybody is advocating and/or acting for quality. That’s not a problem. People have different notions of what they (or others) value; THAT can be a problem. Advocating for quality is like advocating for virtue, or for fairness; it’s empty advocacy until we agree on what we mean.

Tech enthusiasts: My entire house is smart. Tech workers: The only piece of technology in my house is a printer and I keep a gun next to it so I can shoot it if it makes a noise I don't recognize.

And for that manner, autism isn't a personality or a moral compass. You are autistic in addition to everything else. If you're autistic and an a asshole, you dox people because you're an asshole, not because you're autistic. Stop letting people use that as a shield
