The Guy Who Privately Told Trump A Helpful-to-Trump Thing is a staple character of Trump‘s fables. The guy only very occasionally exists.

It's illegal for foreigners to influence U.S. elections, but foreign-owned corporations can make campaign contributions. At least 17 subsidiaries of Canadian companies donated to Super PACs or ran political action committees in the last two years

Trump also claimed that McConnell wasn't at the Rose Garden presser "because he's running the Senate." Except the Senate isn't in session. And McConnell's spokesman told reporters he'd have stayed *if he'd known* about the presser. Awk.

Earlier, asked how it's fair for Cabinet members to get raises while federal workers are going unpaid, Trump said, "We'll have to talk to the Cabinet members, then, okay? I'm sure they don't even know that."

Earlier, Trump said he'd been called by tech companies who complain that they can't keep highly educated foreign workers schooled in the US. He says this is a "ridiculous" policy. *His own policy* has been to make it harder for such people.

Trump in conclusion: "The people that won't get next week's pay or the following week's pay, I think if you ever really looked at those people, I think they'd say, 'Mr. President, keep going, this is far more important.'"

Asked if he'd ask landlords to go easy on federal workers not getting paid right now, Trump says, "I think they will...I think that happens. Hey, I've been a landlord for a long time...they work with people." Pressed, he eventually says he would indeed tell them to go easy.

Trump repeats his regular lie that the U.S. loses "close to $100 billion a year with trade with Mexico for many years." Ignoring his description of trade deficits as losses, the U.S. has never once had even close to a $100 billion deficit with Mexico.

Trump repeats his wildly misleading claim that Mexico's VAT disadvantages the US on trade. This is one of the ones I don't call a lie because it's entirely unclear if Trump has any idea what he's talking about.

Trump says he's not worried about Apple's stock decline because "they've gone up hundreds of percent since I'm president." That's not even close to true. It's been an increase of less than 30%.

Trump repeats his regular false claim that Apple is investing $350B in the US because of his tax law. The company's announcement was pretty vague, but experts say more than $250B of that was regularly planned operations spending.
