“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do, so throw off the bowlines, sail away from safe harbor, catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore, dream, discover.” – Mark Twain

Reflecting on , I’m struck by a sea change in healthcare. Everything is on the table: questioning old assumptions, sparking new debates. As traditional tech + biotech merge into “bio”, we need to revisit some outdated mindsets for this new world👇

Here are some thoughts on stats “vs” ML. Rel btwn the fields, why debates on topic are almost always fundamentally flawed, why I think there’s so much talking past each other, and why I wish we could focus instead on *specific* methods + problems 2/3

There is one topic that’s always my twitter Achilles heel: stats “vs” ML debates. Their existence frustrates me and I can never help myself. So, a few months back, I promised myself that the next time one came up, instead of entering the scrum, I’d just write a post. So.. 1/3

"the 50 antibiotics in development bring little benefit over existing treatments and few target the most resistant bacteria. WHO added products in early stage development were more innovative but would take many years to come to market."

Excited to share new work : Drug prices are a major concern for Americans. We describe the many levers policymakers have—beyond price negotiation—to reduce the cost burden on patients, while maintaining incentives for the innovation society needs.

Imagine telling a person being screened "if u get this test u have a 13% risk of death (10yr), & if you don't u have a 13% risk of death; & that risk is indistinguishable; but your risk of lung cancer death goes from 3.2 to 2.4%, which may or may not be offset by harms & deaths"

👀 Individuals exposed to the shared decision-making process were 2.5X more likely to undergo hip replacement and 2x likely to undergo TKR. Overall, the researchers said the use of shared decision-making did not demonstrate reduced utilization as expected

Immigrant & minority physicians are often in positions to care for frail and vulnerable populations. They often work in communities where others would not. Diversity in the healthcare workforce enriches our ability to address America’s healthcare needs.
