We do not have much choice to be like children when faced with events that are much bigger than the individuals capacity to solve them. We have to rely on our leaders for protection and advice. That does not occur when they lie to us and foil our own efforts!

People often rely on these "leaders" only because they're forced to by them. The state is just a meddling middleman which inserts itself between those who need help, those who can help, and the experts offering advice on how to help, while claiming most of the credit for itself.
