Since the data is limited and so many people have no symptoms or mild symptoms, maybe states should be doing regular (weekly?) sampling to estimate how many have the virus, the new case rates and how many require hospitalization. Estimates are better than nothing.

It's only recently that we've gotten the ability to do sampling due to limitations on number of tests. Even sampling 1000 people in a state of 5.6 million such as
#Minnesota would give some idea of what's happening.

There are 20k deaths globally on 450k diagnosed cases. Testing is inflating the mortality rate but there would need to be around 20 million unknown cases worldwide to make this as benign as the flu.
