I think these authors need to get out more. Nurse : Patient ratios ensure patient safety and good, consistent, deliverable care- the flow on is nurse welfare. Non nurses telling the profession what they need is as naive as it gets. @anmf_federal @anmfvic

Or work the floor and see for themselves how burnt out nurses and midwives are when their employer isn’t compelled via legislation to ensure minimum safer staffing numbers. We see the huge difference between public aged care and private. Private ‘ratios’ are horrific

Theres a lot of opinions in this article. None of them appear to come from someone why has had any experience with healthcare. Follow a nurse around for a few days. Then tell them to their face that they are under worked and overpaid.

@JoeSilverman7 I really hope you tear these authors a new one for this. -
It’s pointless.

That wasn't the like I was aiming for. Let's be honest, patients are the ones who suffer. If a survey is done that says the care is appropriate but the nurses feel their patients are underserved, maybe we all should listen to the professionals at the bedside who've been trained

The word "may" is an actual link to a study in the article done 20! years ago. It proves that patients do have more postop complications when nurses are short staffed. Think how it bad it is now!! They know ZERO about healthcare or journalism!

As the union who pushed for Victoria to become the second place in the world to legislate ratios and then legislate last year to improve it, we rebutt this. It’s about ensuring basic minimum staffing numbers for better patient care. Employers drive down costs by lower ‘ratios’

Which caused burnout and good nurses and midwives leaving the profession entirely. Our members know the difference between legislated ratios and not having to fight every four years to protect it.
