The @realDonaldTrump admin had 2 choices: It could have signed an agreement with Erdoğan that would at least cease the violence Or it could have walked away from the table, in which case the Turks would have proceeded with their operation @DanDePetrishttps://washex.am/31tfj8a

It *paused* the violence. It did not cease it. Stop calling it a ceasefire. It's not. Turkey will start moving again in a couple of days. Had US forces not been so unceremoniously removed, the offensive would not have started, and this weak agreement wouldn't have been necessary.

This is also the EXACT rationale used for the Iran Nuclear Deal, i.e. that it's better to have a deal in place and stop Iran from producing nukes for a period of time than no deal at all.

The agreement did not cease or pause the violence. They got played, then thanked Turkey for playing them.

        50. 100. 1,000. How many troops did we withdraw? Genuinely asking b/c I’ve seen all these numbers reported. My best understanding is that we withdrew 50 from the safety zone but retain 1,000 in other parts of Syria.pic.twitter.com/LBGHyJKBsF

This argument only makes since if you have blinders on that only see the last few weeks. it does not take into account of the causes prior to, and long term effects that will be the consequences of this foreign policy disaster for the U.S. The U.S. has never been weaker
