Seriously, can we not have an event without having to stand for them anthem? Sporting events, debates, always shoving the anthem down your throat! It’s just a song, no need to have to have your hand over your heart to prove you’re more American than the other candidates.
-
It’s not “just a song”. It’s a respect thing. It’s used to honor the people that gave their lives for this country & to honor those sacrificing their lives now.

National anthem is not the Pledge of Allegiance. Hand over heart is optional
-
Gosh I’m glad you cleared that up because I thought there I had been shitting in my hand and clapping at the wrong event! I’ll never forget, that’s strictly for the pledge

I have never before seen ANYONE put their hand on their heart during the National Anthem. Is it a thing outside the northeast? Someone must have done it by accident, and the other candidates followed suit.
-
I never saw anyone, except service members, do this before 9/11.
