A US-UK trade deal will indeed revolutionise world trade... exactly in the way we don’t want it to. It will undercut the standards that UK experts, industry, civ soc orgs have developed with European colleagues - and default our way of life to what the US wants.

The odd thing is Hannan is proposing an EU between UK & US... same standards across like-minded advanced nations. But who would set the standards? In EU we are a powerful voice in a team of 28 nations. In Dan Hannan’s vision, we are Mini-Me on the knee of Daddy.

Um... sorry, Daniel, but that looks like exactly what you are proposing in para 5 and then para 7 on You talk about what is legal in one country automatically being legal in another, and "mutual recognition" If that's not common standards (albeit a race to the bottom) what is it?
