Good! The kids haven't a clue what those words mean. It's a meaningless ritual to them. Compelling, or at minimum peer-pressuring, them to recite them does not bestow patriotism. Let them learn about the Civil War. Then ASK them if they believe in what those words say.

This is not an anti-pledge tweet. It's the same ethic that informs the concept of adult baptisms. A knowing, freely-given oath is meaningful. The Pledge DESERVES to be made knowingly and freely.
