Absolutely. It was pretty clear that he was what we call a Category 1 “former” - someone who “defects” because they’re potentially in trouble with the law.

Category 2 “formers” are defectors trying to run away from movement interpersonal problems. And Category 3 includes formers who’ve experienced a real change of heart/mind. Alas, 25 years of doing this work taught me that too often it’s 1 or 2.
