If "rethinking the Forever war" just means "refocusing on great power competition with China and/or Russia," we've learned nothing. We need to rethink the entire premise that US global military hegemony is necessary to keep us safe and prosperous.

It's wild how in so many documents from 1945, 1946, and 1947, US military elites refer to the UK and the USSR as equally potential competitors

After reading a dozen times to my toddler this morning (by the toddler’s request), I realized that the book is a perfect allegory for campaign. Hear me out—a thread follows. /1

I had to get a background check for my job, and it turns out the report is a 300+ page pdf of every single tweet I’ve ever liked with the work “fuck” in it. Enjoy your dystopian bs! *waves*

Best case scenario is climate change becomes our Great Depression/WW2 and forces us to pool resources to make huge leaps in state capacity, R&D, and technology

In the US phase of war, approximately 2 million Vietnamese civilians and 1 million combatants were killed, along with a chemical poisoning of the land that lingers to this day, (members of my extended family in the US and Vietnam, are still dying of cancer after two generations.)

Profound connections b/w human discovery and militarism in the 20th c. This is from the first major study of whether one could build a satellite. They conclude that one could, and that one could then use this device either to, a) destroy a country, or b) send humans to space

... Services. Ie, some of the most important institutions (or institutional precursors) to the present US state. It'd be amazing if Bernie pursued a similar project of state-making (and in some cases, state-unmaking)
